President John Magufuli pardons 3,551 inmates


Tanzanian President John Magufuli has pardoned 3,551 prisoners as a part of 52nd anniversary of Union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar to form United Republic of Tanzania.
According to press released by permanent secretary of Home Affairs Ministry, Major General  Projest Rwegasira; out of the pardoned 3,551 inmates, 580 have been freed, while 2,971 others have had their sentences reduced.
Among the prisoners  are the elderly, those above 70 year-old, the disabled, those suffering from terminal illnesses such as cancer and HIV/Aids.
